Laptop Computer Backpack

We show you what to look for in a laptop computer backpack.

Laptop Computer Backpack

Of all the laptop bags currently available in the market today, the laptop computer backpack is probably the most popular. Not only is it a sturdy laptop bag option, it is also much easier to carry than other cases. This model has grown in popularity and so has the number of styles and colors that are now available to choose from. The sky is the limit when it comes to choosing backpack computer bags!

Backpacks Are Better!

One of the reasons why the laptop computer backpack is so popular is because the backpack itself is so popular. In terms of your basic bag model, the backpack is the 'healthiest'- unlike other bags, which place a lot of strain on the shoulders and arms, the backpack allows you to carry the weight on your back. Since the weight is evenly distributed, a load that would have been hard on your arms becomes much easier when it's on your back. Apart from that, backpacks leave your arms free- this is a hugely important factor, especially if you are trekking through difficult terrain or riding a bicycle.

A lot of people underestimate the weight of the laptop when they buy a laptop bag. Laptops can be pretty heavy, especially when you have to carry a lot of accessories around as well. Most people buy their laptop case depending on its looks or how many extras it can accommodate. Then when they have to carry it using one arm or slung across one shoulder, they start to feel the strain. Carrying a laptop on your back is a much smarter option, especially if you are traveling a long distance on foot, via motorbike or on a bicycle.

What To Look For

There are a number of things you need to check for when buying a laptop computer backpack. First of all, you need to make sure that the bag is sturdy. Remember that while a backpack is easier to carry, you don't have as much control over the bag. A laptop backpack that is not made well runs a higher risk of falling apart- remember that if the backpack gives way, there's no way you can catch your laptop from behind! A sturdy backpack should have thick, heavy zippers and should be made from tough, durable material. Make sure that it has double stitches and is able to handle the weight of your laptop well.

It's also important to make sure that your laptop computer backpack is water resistant. Most laptop cases will be weatherproof which is essential for keeping your laptop protected from things like water and dust.

One aspect that is often seen as a drawback with the laptop computer backpack is that it cannot be taken for board meetings. Most of such bags have a rugged or casual look to them that might not be appropriate for a corporate seminar. However, a number of recent models now come with a new design that allows you to modify the backpack into a messenger style laptop case. This is just perfect for those board meetings and seminars!

Not Just Your Laptop!

One reason why the laptop computer backpack is so popular among the student crowd is because they hold more than just your laptop! Most models today will have room for your computer as well as important papers, your cell phone and your PDA. If you're the kind of person who likes to take your power inverter, webcam and portable printer along, there are backpacks that can accommodate all that and more!

When you are looking for a laptop computer bag to buy, here are some specific things you should check first. Have a look at the shoulder straps- these should be well cushioned and have adjustments that are durable and easy-to-use. Make sure the backpack does not hang low off your shoulders as this will put a strain on your shoulders and give you a crick in the back. A good backpack should snugly fit on your back- if you turn then it should turn with you, not knock against your waist every time you move. Make sure that the inside of the backpack is designed to absorb shock if the laptop is dropped- ideally, they should have a solid framework and a good cushioning for your computer. Don't forget the other straps- if the backpack comes with straps for your waist, make sure those fit securely as well.

Last, but definitely not least, make sure your laptop computer backpack is easily accessible. While all those pockets and compartments might look really cool, they aren't going to be much use if you can't open them easily. Make sure that compartments for things like your cell phone are easy to reach. It should also be easy to put in and take out the laptop from the bag. Some bags are designed in such a way as to open down the middle, making it much easier to access your laptop.
